A Cancer upon us
America, we have a cancer. We had an abnormal person that invaded democracy, and attacked our democratic norms from within. This person was allowed the highest and most powerful office in the land. An office that could have been used to better peoples lives. An office that could be used to promote American values abroad. Instead, we saw this cancer metastasize into all branches of the government. The only treatment for this cancer was oncological surgery by voters, while the patient was ravaged with a pandemic.
The good news is that the voters took a big chuck of the tumor out on November, 3rd, 2020. The voters came out in record numbers and chose to remove the tumor. Yet, with all this, the tumor manages to live. The tumor lives in the guise of GOP congressmen and senators who won’t stand up to the tumor. The tumor seems to spread in the guise of white supremacists who don't accept American values. So, other types of cancer treatment are also warranted. There’s work still to be done, and it's not going to be pretty. There will be side effects as with any cancer treatment.
Side effects such as bleeding. Democrats are swiping at each other due to shock from underwhelming down ballot races. I suggest the Democrats stay united, and don’t indulge in petty intra party finger pointing. When it comes time to start on 2022 (soon), form a committee to understand lessons learned - not just what went wrong but also what went well from 2020, and effectively apply them. Other states can learn from the work done in Georgia. Beto came very close to winning in Texas in 2018. That outreach is just what the doctors have ordered, except in a safe manner considering the pandemic.
Another side effect includes Flu-like symptoms. The COVID19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc amongst communities. Surprisingly, in communities that actually chose to keep the current administration and their nefariousness. America has to work together to beat this pandemic. People chose to go out to rally's as well as to go out and celebrate the results of the election. Alone, we fail.
We face fatigue. Fatigue from anxiously awaiting the result of the surgery. Fatigue from the tumor eating away at the news airwaves. Fatigue from the amount of work it took to perform the surgery (getting out the vote). Fatigue from staying indoors and trying to stay safe during the pandemic. There are many cultural and religious celebrations and it is hard to stay put. It is hard to make the sacrifices called for. Yet, it has to be done. People need to hunker down and stay safe and most importantly, listen to the scientists and data analyses. Both on the pandemic, and on the elections.
The cancer also brought with it, an erosion of American values. During the impeachment hearings, Republican senators basically stated they did not want to impeach this tenant in the Oval Office and instead wanted him judged by the American voters. American voters spoke loudly and clearly. Republican lawmakers, instead of adhering to these results (results that also re-elected quite a few of them) chose to play in this dangerous real-life drama of not believing voters. The voters did their jobb. It is time for leaders to do theirs. Tell this President to accept the will of the people and start the transition of power. Stand up for democracy. Stand up for American voters who have spoken. Stand up for what is right.
There is a pandemic raging, and people are getting sick, many dying. The case numbers are increasing at an alarming rate. We need help. We need an adult who will lead us out of this pandemic. Joe Biden has already named his Covid team, a group of experienced doctors and scientists who are willing and able to lead us out of this nightmare safely. This is what we do best in America. Lead the world. Band together in moments of crises and come out victorious. Unity is our strength, not the division that this cancer sows amongst us everyday.
America recently lost Alex Trebek to cancer. Let’s hope the rest of America doesn’t follow. A way to prevent this happening is if the brave people in Georgia face voting lines and the pandemic once more. Another surgery is needed. We need a senate majority to ensure Mitch McConnel and his bandits don't throw up a wall to stop the progress that would help Biden, and therefore America. McConnel has already talked about stopping confirmations of Biden's cabinet. Therefore, we need Reverend Warnock and John Ossoff to help Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Build Back Better.
