We are an abused nation

There is a lot on my mind lately. I have veered from abject despair to a painful yearning hope all within the space of a few minutes. This is not a recent occurrence but perhaps has been ongoing for the past 5 years but this phenomenon has been more pronounced over these past 6 months.

This is because all of us are being abused. We are being mentally abused by a person who didn’t qualify to sit in the highest office of the United States. Yet he rules (not leads) in his classic authoritarian manner with no regard for human life.

Here are classic signs of an abuser.
- Extreme jealousy.  You think he is not jealous of the achievements of President Obama?
- Possessiveness which leads to adverse control
- Unpredictability which confuses the abused
- A bad temper with verbal abuse. We all know what happens to the few members of the GOP that dare raise their concerns about him.  They suffer his abuse.  This is what happened to Flake and Sanford  and most tragically, McCain
- Antiquated beliefs about roles of women. This is not limited to Trump, but also to his primary enabler, Pence.

Here’s an article from the National coalition against domestic violence that helps identify abusers.

America, we are victims of abuse. This is not TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). This is abuse. This is not an automatic refusal of anything done by him. This is a recognition of our collective mental status. This is a plea for the return of sanity.

I do not intend to hurt victims of domestic or workplace abuse and violence (that is real). However we, as citizens of the United States, are abused. Let us recognize this phenomenon. We need help from organizations that can help us stop this abuse. We need our mental health back. But first, we need to vote. We need to vote to restore our mental and physical health. We need to vote out the current occupant of the people’s house and all of his enablers.

My plea. Vote like your life depends on it. Vote like your candidate is behind and therefore every vote counts. Vote, because our lives depend on your vote.  Remember, not voting is the same as voting for the status quo.

Thank you for reading.

  1. Well said. We are being abused. A leader sets the tone on how to behave and what respect means. You give respect to get respect and he hasn't given we the people the respect we deserve. This is not a blue or red issue, respect is enshrined in the constitution.

  2. This November we will vote for either decency and kindness or more of... whatever this is. What price for your soul, for your happiness? I know what kind of world I wish to live in and build for future generations and it does not promote greed and cruelty. It should be a world in which kind people are not judged as weak. Kindness is a strength. Compassion should be celebrated. Truth should be a virtue. We need to believe that our institutions are commanded by people who care as much about those things as we do. We can have a better world - a happy, honorable world. Yes, We Can!
