Rhinestone Cowboys Vs Snarky Aliens

My husband, the erstwhile Louis L'amour fan, wanted to watch the movie "Cowboys & Aliens".  As a Steven Spielberg movie, how could we go wrong? Well,  Steven Spielberg doesn't hit the high notes all the time.  This was one of those times.  While the movie was not bad, and it did have some humor, I expected a lot more humor just from the title.  I expected the awesome feeling at the end of the movie when the bad guy's behind gets kicked into outer space, and didn't get that. Daniel Craig (Mr. Bond himself) looks like a mix between a Steve McQueen with a hint of a brooding Paul Newman.  Harrison Ford had COMA (Crotchety Old Man Affliction) and played out his crotchety-ness with no effort.  Those were the highlights.  You have to be a cowboy (not the team - the people) fan to enjoy this movie.  The old Clint Eastwood movies did not do much for me... but Srikanth loves them and can watch them over and over again. Like a Hindi movie,  this one was predictable

The 2011 national parks tour

It was late May and Sanjana mentioned she wanted to see Akshay before he went off to Berkley. So we started thinking about how to make that happen. After batting around a few ideas we came up with sending the kids on their own to Cali and getting them back to Phoenix - from there we'd drive to Utah and see the national parks there. Of course - time moves at a frenetic pace, and the vacation was upon us in the blink of an eye! The 28th of June arrived - time to put the kids on the flight. That morning, nothing moved for me. I was a no-show to a meeting that I set up. I was in a state of limbo until I heard from Sanjana that they were on the flight from Denver to SFO and then I heard from P that he had them safe! They (the kids) of course were too excited to be off on their own and didn't feel any angst at all! The week flew by - where we thought we'd be looking at each other and not know what to do without the kids, we ended up getting things done at the house, visting f

Sailing into the sunset

Of course I had to write about our cruise - how could I not! True this is after the fact, but I far like writing after-the-fact as opposed to during the event. This way I can savor the events a lot more. Several weeks before the cruise: We used the cruise as an excuse to meet up with the Chandras! Not that we needed an excuse, but the "cruise" offered more of a forum. We pretty much just got together and hung out and got nowhere on booking the cruise! 2 weeks before the cruise: It was our wedding anniversary, and we were no closer to booking a cruise than we were any of the prior weeks! Spring Break was around the corner - March 13th! Rajesh (Charndra) came over to fix doors, and we started narrowing down possibilities. Sonal wanted to limit cruise departures from Galveston (booked) or from New Orleans (only one cruise departure left). We decided to leave it for Sunday when we were going to meet for dinner (on top of the earlier dinners we had already had getting nowhere).
