AnthAkshari Time

We tried an Iphone Anthakshari which didn't quite work. I'm sure my genius nephew will come up with an Ap if I ask. In the meantime, here's an alternative. Here is an anthakshari - I've started. You contribute in the comments.  I have turned off moderation - so your comments should now appear within a few seconds. Rules: Whoever wants can join. Whoever gives the song states the syllable to start the next song. You cannot repeat a song. Language: Hindi Scount's honor - don't cheat. We won't know you cheated but you will, and it won't be fun. Lets see how long we can play! Thank you for playing.

My Name Is Khan (from the epiglotis) - oh the things you can think

***spoiler alert**** if you plan on watching the movie and don't want to know the story line ahead of time, then don't read this!!!!! When you think of a Karan Johar movie, the mind immediately wanders to scenes from KKHH/K3G/Dostana etc. with SRK (or an alternative hero) playing the hopeless romantic and some shrill sounding heroine shrieking away; some sure-to-be-hits pop tunes, and a sappy story to go with it. Even KANK had some of the regular masala spices in it. MNIK had SRK, and the shrill heroine... and that's where the comparisons had to stop. Take a little bit of "Forrest Gump", throw in a bit of "Rain Man", and stir in a post 9/11 setting a la New York (for the obligatory "moral of the story" film message), and you have yourself a "My Name is Khan". SRK plays a person diagnosed wih Asberger's Syndrome (a form of Autism). SRK, although no Dustin Hoffman, was able to pull of being a selective Autistic - almost as in the di

The Hill Countries of Texas

Last year our group of 7 families rented a couple of houses in Seguin (about 2 doors down from each other) and had a huge party over Val-Day w/e. We decided to continue the same and start a tradition per se. We started off only with 6 families (Anands had a sick child with walking Pneumonia). Then when it was time to book the house, 2 more familes dropped off! The Avantsas (debate) and the Venugopals (work trip)! We decided we were going to party anyway, and booked a house in McQueeny, Tx (just west of New Braunfels). The area we picked was quite secluded and just gorgeous. The weekend before we were to leave, the Pethes threw a kink in our armor! They realized that they had a conflict, and bizzarre plans were being hatched as to when and how they would come etc. Luckily it all sorted itself out, and all of them were able to join us for the whole time. So, the Singhs, Thomas', Pethes and us all reached there at about the same time on Friday. The kids had a blast exploring the house

The mistaken Olympians

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief - a movie that could have been so much more... Columbus stuck to the book with the Potter series kick-off, and should have stuck to the book here too! The dialogue in this movie was stilted at best. The story line lacked reality ... or even fantasy! Medusa is defeated with the help of an .... I-pod! The use of Persephony or even the Hydra was totally unnecessary. Pierce Brosnan as a centaur, is awkward. Zeus and Posiedon look bored. The movie was still entrtaining, and earned claps at the end - CGI had to be worth something! Gets a 2.5/5 for being an entertaining (CGI effects), but forgetful movie. Thank you for reading.
