The prediliction for chess

When Suvedh was little, we didn't think he'd play much of anything -he was so happy just whiling away his time at doing nothing! Then we got him a "How to play chess CD" for one of his birthdays - I think when he was in 1st Grade. This was a computer game that he loved. He didn't do much in Ohio - but when we moved to SL, he joined a chess club which he enjoyed playing in. This slowly turned into a love for playing chess that never went away. He played in his first USCF rated tournament in September of 2007.... and has played in over 90 tournaments since (these include the Friday chess where they play rated games).

Going to tournaments is not easy - for the player, and mostly for the parent/guardian... this is spent in pacing and worrying! Of "oh no that just didn't happen" to "oh wow you pulled it off". He is now at the nationals - and I'm able to follow it in spite of not being there! Check out the 6th Grade Pairings/Standings/Results! Technology is a wonderful thing!

His first game was a win - even though he didn't play well... he accidentally touched his queen and so had to move it. Then he dropped pieces here and there. His saving grace was his end-game where he rocks. He finally won his game against a 600. Then in the second round, he played an 1800 and lost :(. The third round starts at 10 today (Saturday the 12th of Dec, 2009). The pairings are out, and he is to play a 1200. In the meantime, FSMS is not listed in the pairings and so Srikanth has to follow up!

He won against the 1200 in the third round, and the next round starts at 2pm... my prediction - he'll play against a 1500. Now comes the wait... This is the life of a parent! Nope wrong! He played an 1800 and... yup - lost. Oh well - such is life. This is the payment for not starting off the tournament in a high enough spot. His friend, Devan seems to be doing quite good though - hopefully he'll continue todo good.

He is playing a 1300 now... The playing field is SO skewed - the leaders all fell and an 1800 is leading the pack! The kid that won TX State fell to 30 something! This is a bizarre tournament to watch! *starts biting nails*... finally over! He now has 3 points... I'm not sure who he's going to play tomorrow as they'll only post that much later - but I know its going to be tough... more nail biting *sigh*... he ended up with 3.5 Not bad - but not good either. Better luck next time!
