The Hill Countries of Texas

Last year our group of 7 families rented a couple of houses in Seguin (about 2 doors down from each other) and had a huge party over Val-Day w/e. We decided to continue the same and start a tradition per se. We started off only with 6 families (Anands had a sick child with walking Pneumonia). Then when it was time to book the house, 2 more familes dropped off! The Avantsas (debate) and the Venugopals (work trip)!

We decided we were going to party anyway, and booked a house in McQueeny, Tx (just west of New Braunfels). The area we picked was quite secluded and just gorgeous. The weekend before we were to leave, the Pethes threw a kink in our armor! They realized that they had a conflict, and bizzarre plans were being hatched as to when and how they would come etc. Luckily it all sorted itself out, and all of them were able to join us for the whole time. So, the Singhs, Thomas', Pethes and us all reached there at about the same time on Friday. The kids had a blast exploring the house. Excited comments like "waaay better than last year! Check out the jacuzi!" could be heard. There was a brief struggle for bedroom superiority - Pethes and Singhs took upstairs bedrooms, with the big boys taking the 3rd upstairs room. We took a bedroom downstairs along with the Thomas', the smaller boys and the girls. The house was just right for 4 families. Another family, and it would have been a tight fit!

I had made a short spreadhseet (not to be compared to that of last year, as that one was a masterpiece!) that listed out who brought what and also made a grovery list. 3 of the 4 guys decided to go shopping for groceries. Here was the list we gave them - milk, juice, water, beer... the kids yelled out ice-cream as they left.... so they brought the items on the list... and a boat load of bananas! Pethe was of course given full credit for the bananas, and so had to be photographed with the bananas that Susan had taken, the ones that Anu took, AND the bunches that the guys bought - about 6 dozen bananas for 17 people for 1 1/2 days... much to my surprise, the bananas were consumed!

Saturday saw the gals wanting to hunt and peck in the San Marcos outlet Mecca. Shopping has never been a favorite activity of mine, but I can see the fun in shopping in a group and helping other people spend their money - a heady feeling :) In the evening we played games - Rajiv taught the kids how to play Texas Hold 'em.... hmmm - not sure if that's entirely a "good thing"! Lots of laughter and fun... Finally Sunday came and it was time to wrap up the show. Wish the 3 other families could have made it too... perhaps next time we'll pick Labor day weekend or something like that so that we can throw in an amusement park too for the kids.

Thank you for reading.
